Cities Through Google Glass: Durham

Google decided to tour the country and let average consumers test out Google Glass. I was lucky enough to attend the event in Durham, NC back in October. Glass was very functional, fashion-forward, and even better than I could have hoped for! I even made it in this promo video for the Cities Through Google Glass Tour. Can’t wait to get my hands on Glass one day!

PointSource Raleigh Grand Opening a Success!

Image

I finally received pictures from the PointSource Grand Opening, and I’m excited to report that everything was perfect! PointSource employees, executives, clients, NCTA members, and IBM channel members attended the event and celebrated the accomplishments of PointSource.

PointSource has grown from just 4 employees to over 70 in the past couple years, and is nominated for the Fastest Growing Company award of the NCTA 21 Awards. The Raleigh office is a design and development hub for the company and has the brightest in the industry collaborating in the newly designed space.

To prepare for the event I helped find a caterer, flowers, and decorative cupcakes. The Pit catered the event and the cupcakes were baked and decorated by The Cupcake Shoppe. There was great attendance, food, and fun – what more could you want from a celebratory event! Congrats PointSource on all your accomplishments!

Grand Opening Planning

ImageI’ve been so busy with school, work, and school events that I’ve forgotten to post! At work I’ve been helping with press releases, social media marketing, and planning our grand opening event later this month.

The grand opening will include a ribbon cutting, barbecue sliders, drinks, and more! Helping plan this event has shown me how much really goes into a 2-3 hour event, and that attention to detail is very important. I cannot wait to see how it turns out!

On to the next one…

After completing my Summer internship at Renfro Corporation, I immediately jumped into a new Marketing Intern position at PointSource for the Fall. PointSource specializes in exquisite design and development expertise for enterprise mobile applications.

I’m about three weeks in, and I’ve learned so much! This was an industry I knew very little about, and learning how this kind of company functions has been very beneficial. I’m helping with event planning, press releases, and social media marketing. I report directly to the Marketing Director, and work closely with her everyday. I’m very lucky to have this position, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of my time at PointSource brings!

Copper Sole Video

This summer I was asked to create a video for one of Renfro Corporation’s brands, Copper Sole. I created a storyboard, found a producer (Matt Powell Productions), and helped on set. I learned a lot about the process of creating a video and it takes much more time (and money) to make a quality film than I could have imagined. The film is a B2C video that will be used on social media sites, the Copper Sole website, and in sales pitches.

We filmed in Boone, NC, and the video really captures the brand image of Copper Sole socks. I love the scenic mountains in the background, the action-invoking music, and the story being told. Enjoy!

Behind-the-scenes of Brand Image Video

For the past two days I’ve been in Boone, NC to help film my main video project. I’ve been asked to create a brand image video to be used for the Copper Sole website and social media. I created a storyboard and contacted several videographers before deciding on a very talented producer, Matt Powell from Matt Powell Productions. The video will be finished in two weeks, and features 4 athletes wearing the Copper Sole socks. It will have upbeat music and create a youthful, sporty brand image in consumers’ minds.

Using Adobe Illustrator to Create Packaging

packaging_wordpress

One of my projects for my Summer internship is to create packaging for a new product line. I was very excited to begin this project and learn Adobe Illustrator for the first time, but pretty nervous too! Adobe Creative Suite is not user-friendly, and learning the different functions and all you can do using the programs takes time. I first created a paper prototype to figure out the size and shape of the packaging. Next, using shapes in Illustrator, I created the template for my packaging.

Learning Illustrator has been a little tricky, but so far I haven’t hit many obstacles. One problem I did run into was going back and forth between Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I wanted to use certain effects in Photoshop, but when I went to bring the file back into Illustrator, it flattened all my layers into one. That’s because Photoshop works solely in pixels.I learned if I want to use an effect in Photoshop, I need to create each individual element as an object, and then bring it back and forth.

Today, I’ve been adding copy to the back of the packaging, such as the care instructions and directions. I also drew an atom using Illustrator. I still have more to do, but it is looking good so far!
